IPCC Report Highlights Urgent Need to Reduce Emissions

SOME of the recent extreme weather experienced globally is the result of human induced climate change which will get worse over forthcoming decades, according to a new report from the IPCC.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report that greenhouse gas emissions related to mans activities are responsible for more recent record high and less record low temperatures, along with the resultant increase in coastal flooding and likely to the increased extremes of rainfall and snow.

Energy Efficiency must take Priority over Renewables

These were the sentiments of Benj Sykes, the director of innovations for the UK's Carbon Trust.

Writing an excellent article in The Guradian he argues his point strongly - with some details that Enigin Distributors and all business owners need to consider.

In the superscription to the article it states "Using renewable energy gives your business a certain cachet, but don't underestimate the importance of energy efficiency."

Energy Efficiency needs to be Focus for Governments

The businesstimes.com website of Singapore has recently posted an excellent article about the importance of energy efficiency by Joe Hogan, the CEO of ABB, the Swiss-based company.

I would like to share this with you in full as it is very useful for everyone who works in the energy saving business, in fact it is useful for everyone to realise how important energy efficiency is - which is our focus at Enigin.

Harnessing Children’s Power to Save Energy

Enigin Distributor Maryland Green Power Company have reported the following on there blog:

Relax. We’re not going to grab your children and put them on a hamster wheel attached to a generator set and pump electrical power back into the grid via a net-metering interconnect. No. Not even if they have ADHD. You can do that on your own if you like.

However, we would like to congratulate the middle school members of Roland Park Elementary and Middle School’s Environmental Club in Baltimore, MD for their creativity and astuteness in saving energy.

Besides the leadership role many of these pupils play in their community, including one young lady who was organizing a fundraiser to collect funds for a solar energy project, they also have a talent for observing what many working-age members of our community overlook: That is, one does not have to spend a fortune on high-tech gadgets, renewable energy and high-efficiency appliances to make a big difference.

The Age For Enigin's Energy Efficiency

 I read a great article by Paddy Manning on the The Age website from Australia.

It appears that in Australia they are about to debate various carbon emission policies, like so many other countries.

This is of interest to everyone connected with Enigin, Partners and Distributors, as energy efficiency is the nature of our business.

Manning goes on to discuss the energy efficiency business, showing what a great business opportunity we have:

Ho hum, you say? No money in it? Wrong. Energy efficiency is the fastest-growing carbon abatement market, according to HSBC's recent Climate Annual Index Review. HSBC estimated that the global market for energy efficiency this year was $US164 billion ($A178 billion) and would grow to more than $US600 billion by 2020.

The upcoming climate conference, in Copenhagen - Denmark, will place central environmental issues on the international table along with their relative potential solutions.

Carbon emissions are making the Greenland and Antarctica ice sheets melt, and this could soon be irreversible, should immediate action be delayed any further. 

Energy efficiency not only reduces energy consumption, it also reduces carbon emissions. Energy Efficiency - See It To Change It

The BBC has reported how the Energy Saving Trust in the UK has highlighted the importance of clear visual displays when smart meters are used.

The report, from the Energy Saving Trust, says that smart meters will be less effective without monitors.

This supports what Enigin PLC has provided in their Eniscope solution. UK Government Release Funds

The clean energy technologies of the future will have access to an extra £20 million in government-backed venture capital support, Ed Miliband announced today.

New advances in technologies such as energy efficiency, wave, tidal, fuel cells and solar power are dependent on a mixture of R&D grant support and venture capital, but the flow of private money for early stage development has fallen back since the downturn started in 2008.

The allocation announced today is the latest instalment of £405 million announced in the Budget for low carbon.

Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband said:

“It is essential we meet our long term climate change goals. That’s why we’re intervening with support for tomorrow’s green energy technologies.

“Where market capital isn’t coming forward, we’re stepping in to plug the gap as speedily as possible.”

Save Energy, Save Money.

I have read a few articles today that highlight the importance of saving money through energy efficiency, particularly small to medium size businesses, if not in fact all business large or small.

For instance recently Europe’s leading electrical, electronic and industrial components distributor, RS Products, released the results of a survey they conducted to discover the driving force for businesses to become more energy efficient.

The survey revealed, not unsurprisingly, that cost saving was the primary reason for energy efficiency. Legislation, compliance and carbon footprint reduction all play a part, but hard business decisions are ruling the day as far as energy conservation is concerned. Within the current financial climate saving money has set many enterprises along the energy saving path.

UK Standard To Improve Energy Efficiency

A new standard published by BSI (The British Standards Institution) aims to help organisations make energy cost savings and reductions in their greenhouse gas emissions. 

BS EN 16001 demonstrates how to establish the systems and processes necessary to improve energy efficiency across their operations.
