Utility Bills Up 60%!

I got a bit of a shock this morning when I switched on to watch the morning news, the BBC reported that UK utility bills could rise by as much as 60% over the next 10-15 years according to UK government regulator Ofgem (Office of gas and electricity markets) in their “Energy Market Scenarios” report.

 This maybe a UK story but the implications are that worldwide everyone faces the same problem and it highlights how all of us, households as well as commerce and industry need to act now to become more energy efficient. This is one aspect that Ofgem, at brief review of their report, do not seem to have factored in to possible outcomes.

Queensland Australia Probes Energy Efficiency

The Sydney Morning Herald reports on Thursday Oct 8 that Queensland State will be focusing on the environment, but realising that energy efficiency is a key element to reach the desired goals:

The future impacts of a carbon trading scheme on Queensland and the state's energy efficiency programs will be under the microscope at a parliamentary hearing on Thursday. 

Environment and Resources Committee chair Carryn Sullivan said government played a vital role in promoting energy efficiency as the community tackled climate change. 

Energy Efficiency - See It To Change It

The BBC has reported how the Energy Saving Trust in the UK has highlighted the importance of clear visual displays when smart meters are used.

The report, from the Energy Saving Trust, says that smart meters will be less effective without monitors.

This supports what Enigin PLC has provided in their Eniscope solution. The Eniscope is far more than a “smart meter” being an advanced real-time energy monitor and combined with Enigin’s bespoke powerful software it provides the most comprehensive visual energy-use display for commerce and industry.

UK Government Release Funds

The clean energy technologies of the future will have access to an extra £20 million in government-backed venture capital support, Ed Miliband announced today.

New advances in technologies such as energy efficiency, wave, tidal, fuel cells and solar power are dependent on a mixture of R&D grant support and venture capital, but the flow of private money for early stage development has fallen back since the downturn started in 2008.

The allocation announced today is the latest instalment of £405 million announced in the Budget for low carbon.

Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband said:

“It is essential we meet our long term climate change goals. That’s why we’re intervening with support for tomorrow’s green energy technologies.

“Where market capital isn’t coming forward, we’re stepping in to plug the gap as speedily as possible.”

HSBC Report - Best Time For Energy Saving Business

HSBC Bank has released a report that shows what an ideal time this is to start an energy saving business. Enigin's energy saving business opportunity is an ideal package for entrepreneurs to get into this expanding market  (Click Here For More Information). 

London - Global revenues from climate-related businesses such as energy efficiency rose by 75 percent in 2008 to $530 billion and could exceed $2 trillion by 2020, HSBC Global Research estimated on Friday.

I often report on this blog how Enigin Distributors are doing around the globe and I thought I would bring you up to date with two Distributors we have featured before, just to see how they are fairing.

Save Energy, Save Money.

I have read a few articles today that highlight the importance of saving money through energy efficiency, particularly small to medium size businesses, if not in fact all business large or small.

For instance recently Europe’s leading electrical, electronic and industrial components distributor, RS Products, released the results of a survey they conducted to discover the driving force for businesses to become more energy efficient.

The survey revealed, not unsurprisingly, that cost saving was the primary reason for energy efficiency. Legislation, compliance and carbon footprint reduction all play a part, but hard business decisions are ruling the day as far as energy conservation is concerned. Within the current financial climate saving money has set many enterprises along the energy saving path.
